Part A: Get visual, build influence, drive action

There is a strong evidence base for using visuals in project work. Chapter 1 outlines the book’s purpose and rationale, and the key objectives of each chapter. Chapter 2 presents a snapshot of the scientific basis for using visuals in communications. The chapter introduces concepts such as working memory and its limits, and includes a brief digression to consider the historical and cultural context which has given rise to visuals. Chapter 3 provides a case for the use of visuals in project work. The chapter discusses the concept of sensemaking and the initial position of visuals as boundary objects, then provides examples of specific studies that explore the efficacy of visuals in project work.
